Australia Women Clinch ODI Series with Dominant 122-Run Win Against India Women in 2nd ODI

Brisbane: Australia Women secured a commanding 122-run victory over India Women in the second ODI at Allan Border Field, taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series. Powered by centuries from Ellyse Perry and Georgia Voll, the hosts set a daunting target of 372 runs, which the Indian team failed to chase.

Winning the toss, Australian skipper Tahlia McGrath opted to bat first on a flat track. The decision paid off as Georgia Voll smashed her maiden international century, complemented by a blistering hundred from Ellyse Perry. Contributions from other top-order batters helped Australia post an imposing 371/7.

In response, the Indian batters faltered under pressure, failing to form solid partnerships. Despite brief resistance in the middle order, the team was bowled out for 249. Annabel Sutherland was the standout bowler for Australia, claiming four wickets to dismantle the Indian lineup.

Captains Speak:

  • Tahlia McGrath praised her team’s overall performance, highlighting Georgia Voll’s hundred and Perry’s aggressive approach. She lauded the bowlers for their discipline on a batter-friendly pitch.
  • Harmanpreet Kaur acknowledged the team’s struggles, emphasizing the need for batters to convert starts into big scores and for bowlers to maintain discipline.

Player of the Match: Ellyse Perry received the honor for her explosive century, which set the tone for Australia’s innings. Perry credited the strong foundation laid by her fellow batters and the bowling unit’s efforts in defending the target.

The third and final ODI is scheduled for December 11, where Australia Women will look to complete a series sweep.
